ADDING INTEGERS

Example 1) Add. 
(- 2) + (- 3)
Step 1) Draw a number line. And find our starting point of (-2)
(- 2)
-5   -4    -3   -2    -1    0    1     2     3     4     5
Step 2) To add -3 means to move to the left 3 units.

-5   -4    -3   -2    -1    0    1     2     3     4     5
Step 3) From -2, we move three units left and land on -5. Therefore:
(- 2) + (- 3) =  (-5)

SUBTRACTING INTEGERS

Example 1) Subtract.
(- 2) - (- 3)
Step 1) Draw a number line. And find our starting point of (-2)
When you subtract a negative number, it becomes addition: 
(- 2) - (- 3)          (- 2) + (3) 
Therefore, we move to the right three units on the number line.
Therefore (- 2) +
 (3) = 1
(- 2)
