Subject

Who or what the sentence is about. 

Predicate

What the subject is doing or being.

Example: The dog (subject) runs (verb)

Types of Sentences
Simple

One independent clause 

(a complete thought with a subject and verb). 

 • Example: She reads books. 

Compound

Two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (like and, but, or). 

 • Example: I like pizza, and he likes burgers. 

Complex

One independent clause and at least one dependent clause (not a complete thought). Example: When I finish homework, I will watch TV.

Used at the end of a sentence

Marks a pause during a sentence
